“Love My Career”: Start Where You Are

Let’s start by answering a simple question. Do you love your current career?

• Resounding YES that you want to scream from the rooftops?
• Huge NO that is more like a silent scream- a cry for help in the middle of the night?

That is the first step. Identify where you are.

Chances are you fall somewhere in the middle of that continuum between ADORATION and DESPISING. Honestly. Think about whether you are only a few shifts away from a spectacular work situation or a few giant leaps from that life you dream of, but can’t seem to attain.

This is the work I do with my Career Mobility clients. We actually discuss their Career Mobility. (Go figure!) How to make the moves that will leverage their interests, passions, experiences and desires.

(And here’s a little secret: It is not always about landing a new position- sometimes it is all about a pivot in your current position.)

Try this action: Write down where you fall in the work world –between loving your career and marching in to quit tomorrow morning. Now, make a list of ALL the aspects of your current function, physical work environment, responsibilities, organizational culture, employer that could be improved in order to move you closer to being IN LOVE with your career.

That’s all. Make that list. Begin there. It is so critical to know where you stand and START FROM WHERE YOU ARE!
